Shakespeare Studies is an international volumepublished every year in hard cover featuring essays and studies bycritics and cultural historians from both hemispheres. The journal alsocontains substantial reviews of important books and essays dealing withthe cultural history of early modern England and the place ofShakespeare's productions (together with those of his contemporarieswithin it. In recent year, Shakespeare Studies has expanded to includearticles and reviews on significant intellectual and historical eventson the continent; on global issues pertaining to England, in particularits relationship to the Near and the Far East; and on theoretical worksrelevant to the critical analysis of Shakespeare and his time.

AnEditorial Board of cultural historians and scholars maintains thequality of each annual volume so that Shakespeare Studies may serve asa useful guide for all students of Shakespeare and the early modernperiod - for teachers, actors, and directors as well as researchscholars.

Volume XXXII contains a feature initiated in the previous volume, that is, an annual series of essays on "Early Modern Drama around the World," in which specialists in theatrical traditions from around the globe during the time of Shakespeare discuss the state of scholarly study in their respective areas. In the present volume Mitsuru Kamachi discusses possible connections between Western and Japanese theaters, and Stephanie O'Hara reviews work relevant to the theater of early modern France.
